Perfect Example

28 years ago from today, my parents got married. 28 years. What a statement of love and commitment to one another. In the world these days, if you stay married for 10 years, you're considered some type of marital wizard. 28 years. Kinda puts 10 to shame. I've never once had the feeling that my parents were ever near divorce, because they've always made it perfectly clear that divorce was not an option in our household. But, I could have never asked for a more perfect example of what a marriage should look like.

I realize that my parents would both probably tell you that their marriage is not perfect, and I'm not naive, I realize that it's not perfect. But, they have both individually given me such high standards for marriage based on their relationship with each other, and now I am unwilling to accept anything less than that from a woman. Thanks to their guidance and living example of what a strong relationship should be, I can establish the foundations of what I need to look for in a woman that God sends my way. They may not think their relationship is perfect (and it's not, obviously), but they have given me a perfect idea/example of what I should be looking for.

I hope that when I get married someday, my wife and I can be half as happy as my parents are today. If that happens, I'll consider myself the luckiest person alive.

Happy anniversary mom & dad!

I feel the same way about my parents. Congratulations, Ed and Becky!

In unrelated news, John, the price I demand for using my intellectual property on your blog ( i.e. the wicked sweet B and W "Rock foot" photograph) is a link to my blog under your linkable links section.

:-)
